Tuesday Life Hack: 6 tips to help you spring clean your bathroom

Spring is around the corner, which means it might be time to declutter your home and do a little spring clean. Here are some hacks to help you scrub your bathroom clean.

With flowers getting ready to bloom, animals coming out of hibernation and warm weather returning, it’s the perfect time to prepare your home for the next season. This endeavour does not have to be expensive or time-consuming. Don’t have a clue where or how to start in a cost-effective way?  Start with your bathroom using these DIY hacks.

1. To unclog a drain:

Add a ¾ cup of baking soda with a ½ cup of vinegar into the sink. Leave the mixture in the sink for 30 minutes. Add boiling water. Release the plug or stopper allowing the mixture to run into the drain to unclog it.

2. For a shiny tap:

Soak paper towels in vinegar and cover the tap with them for 45 minutes. Remove the paper towels, wipe the tap down and it will be glistening.

3. Get rid of dirty tile grout:

Dirty tile grout can be difficult to clean. Mix bleach and baking soda with some toothpaste. Dip a toothbrush or cloth into the mixture and scrub the dirty tile grout clean.

4. Clean your showerhead:

Mix vinegar with lemon oil into a clear plastic bag. Then cover the showerhead with this plastic bag for 30 minutes. Wipe it down and you’ll have a clean shower head.

5. Wipe down a foggy mirror:

Take a soap bar and rub it on the mirror to get rid of the steam. Then follow up with a piece of old newspaper and scrub the mirror clean.

6. Keep your surfaces clean:

Mix 1 cup of epson salt, ½ cup of baking soda and ¼ cup of dishwashing liquid. Use a cloth to wipe the surfaces with this mixture and you’ll never look back.

How often should you be cleaning your bathroom?

  • Once a day, make sure you wipe surfaces, sink, and sweep the floor as well as air out your bathroom.
  • Once a week, make sure you clean the mirrors, scrub the toilet, shower and sink and also mop the floors.
  • Once a week, wash your rugs, towels and other bathroom upholstery.
  • Once a month, scrub the tile grout, wash windows, get rid of expired products
