Attempted hijacking foiled in CBD

It was only after the pair had fled, that the victim noticed his wallet and three cellphones were missing.

A Secunda man’s act of throwing his keys away saved his car from being stolen in the CBD last Saturday evening.
The driver was on his way home through Springs when he stopped to buy cooldrink at a tuck shop on Sixth Street.
When he drove off, he noticed a white BMW behind him, which flashed blue lights at him indicating he should stop.
After he pulled over, two men wearing police uniforms approached him.

One of the men went to the passenger side of the bakkie, while the other man went to the driver’s side.
The man on the driver’s side asked for the victim’s driver’s licence, which he handed over to the man on the passenger side.
While that man was inspecting the licence, the bogus policeman on his side of the car pulled out a gun, opened the door and dragged the victim out of his car.
While being pulled out, the victim managed to switch off his car and take his keys.
The other man then came from the passenger side and fired two shots in an attempt to scare the victim into getting into the boot of their car.

The victim, however, outwitted the pair by throwing his keys into the yard of a nearby house.
The pair of would-be hijackers fled empty-handed.
It was only after the two had fled that the victim noticed his wallet and three cellphones were missing.
Police later found two cartridges on the scene.
