New song #Yekela to address GBV

The song titled #Yekela will join campaigns against the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV) in the country.

Duduza – Local artist Sbu Dludlu has been featured in a soon-to-be-released collaboration written and composed by Bheki Nqoko.

The song titled #Yekela will join campaigns against the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV) in the country.

The collaboration will also feature Smanga Ngubane, Thanda Madida and Prince M.

“As much as not all men are monsters and rapists, we cannot turn a blind eye to the reality of what is happening in our country. As men, we should be protectors and providers for our families.

“Violence has never been the answer. I cannot stress this enough,” said Dludlu.

He explained the collaboration started as a conversation about GBV, and that the issue hits home, especially for him as a father of two daughters.

“Bheki and I have wanted to work together for a while now. He was the one who came up with the melody for the song.

“For me it was important to take part in raising awareness, sending out the message and opening up the dialogue that violence has never been the answer,” he said.

Dludlu is urging people to learn how to address issues accordingly and stated it is crucial that artists use their platforms to speak out.

“We have young people who look up to us, who aspire to be like us one day. There’s a child out there who sees that Sbu from Duduza, a small township which is talked bad about, but is doing something good,” he said.

Dludlu is working on a new single to honour his late mother. The song will be titled Sibongile.

His mother died last year during the pandemic.

“I almost lost hope, so in her memory I am releasing a single about her, thanking her for raising me and supporting me throughout her existence.

“For everyone who lost their loved ones during this difficult time, remember it is not all lost,” he explained.
