Truck driver hijacked by fake cops

A driver of a truck was hijacked on the N12 highway, just past the Welgedacht off-ramp, by occupants of a white vehicle with blue lights.
Speaking to local police, the driver said he was on his way to Mozambique on Wednesday afternoon, with a cargo of sweets, nappies, energy drinks and coffee, when he noticed the occupants of a white vehicle pointing to something on his truck.
He ignored them and kept on driving.

After the Welgedacht off-ramp, he was instructed to pull over by the occupants of a white Ford, which was fitted with blue lights.
Thinking it was the police, the driver stopped.
Once he was parked on the side of the road, two men approached him.
One of the men was wearing a blue police jacket and checked the truck’s licence disk and asked the driver for his licence.
They then asked him to get out of the truck and told him to go to the back of the truck, where they threatened him at gunpoint.
The hijackers then forced the driver into the boot of the Ford and drove him to a house in Ivory Park where he was kept under guard.

He was later dropped off in a secluded area and sought help at the Ivory Park Police Station.
Police drove him around Ivory Park in an effort find the house at which he was kept, before dropping him off the at Springs Police Station.
In addition to the truck, the hijackers also took the driver’s cellphone, his wallet, which contained R1 600 and his permit and passport.
The stolen truck is a Volvo Superlink Truck.
The value of the truck and its cargo was not disclosed.
