New editor at helm

Thelma Koorts has been appointed as the editor of the Springs Advertiser and the African Reporter.

She brings with her more than 27 years of journalism experience with community newspapers.

Thelma started her career in journalism as a junior reporter at the Brakpan Herald, the sister paper of The Springs Advertiser and African Reporter.

She was later appointed as news editor of the Herald and took up the position of editor in 2005.

She remains the editor of the Brakpan Herald.

Thelma is grateful for the opportunity and intends to put her knowledge and skills to work to take both publications to new heights.

“A community newspaper, as the name indicates, is there for the community,” she said.

“My goal is to make sure both the Springs Advertiser and the African Reporter continue to keep readers informed of what is happening in the community.

“I look forward to building on the relationship with the local community.

“Being appointed the editor of two more papers in the Caxton stable is a huge honour, but also comes with great responsibilities.

“I will do everything in my power to live up to this and make sure our readers are kept informed week after week.”
