Brendon Motsemme, founder of Vaytox Music and artist manager, is advising all artists in the music industry to utilise this period to perfect their crafts.

He says artist have no excuse to put out wack content, as they have enough time to perfect their craft.

“Positivity is needed right now and I feel this is a great time for artist to go back to the drawing board, look at their content and work on it, while they still have time to do so.

“What I would love to hear and see after the lockdown is great quality music, which will be an indication that a lot of thought and time went into producing it,” says Motsemme.

New forum gives platform to local artists

He says most artist struggle to produce quality music.

“A common mistake is that artist produce music for themselves and not necessarily for the people.

“As an artist, you need to make music people want to hear, music which will sell and allow you to interact with fans.

“Utilise this time to research what is happening within the music industry.

“Find out where the market is moving so you can have a better understanding of what works and what doesn’t work,” he explains.

Local musicians using music to empower

He urges artist to use digital platforms to distribute their products.

“Digital is massive right now, if done properly.

“Having a good relationship with your followers is very important.

“But releasing meaningful content of good quality and taking your brand seriously is crucial.

“No one will take you seriously if you don’t take yourself seriously,” he adds.

He warns that artists must be careful of how they narrate their music and the choice of words in their music.

“Refrain from having different narratives in one song, it confuses the listeners.

“As a listener, I should be able to understand what the song is about and be able to easily follow it,” he says.
