Duduza poets rewarded for their great work

“We are one of the few organisations that has a platform where emerging artists nurture and expose their talents while competing with others to gauge their standard of performance,” says Radebe

Duduza – The Radical Arts Forum collected nine trophies at an awards ceremony held at the Germiston Theatre on March 2.

Founder of the forum, Bheki Radebe, says he started it in 2013 to revive the arts in the community.

“We host art events such as schools theatre and poetry festivals and training on creative writing, drama and dance all in the name of reviving community theatre in our township,” he says.

The forum has a School Interactive Theatre programme where learners between the ages of 10 to 18 are developed and given a chance to perform at the Hat Poetry Championship which is hosted by the forum on every last Saturday of the month.

Radebe says the forum has given emerging artists a platform to show off their talents while having an audience to critique and perform.

“We are one of the few organisations that has a platform where emerging artists nurture and expose their talents while competing with others to gauge their standard of performance,” he explains.

The Duduza-based group was nominated for the awards by their local library where they host their monthly events.

“We hosted a Glorious Outstanding Poetry Awards nomination and a voting session where the audience nominated poets in specific categories.

“The nominated poets then performed or the audience votes,” he explains.

Radebe encourages the youth of Duduza to join the forum so they can grow their talent.

The forum is grateful for the support they receive from Supreme Spring and the Ekurhuleni Men Pioneers.

“We greatly appreciate the support from Supreme Spring who sponsored the awards and the Ekurhuleni Men Pioneers for their overwhelming support,” he says.
