Local big teams ready to tackle the ball in CAF games

“We still expected a lot from him, especially with the development of young soccer players from the grassroots level."

KwaThema – Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs supporters say they are ready to lock horns in another leg of the CAF Confederation Cup this weekend.

The big rival teams have now joined hands, wishing that either one of the teams makes it to the next stages.

The three teams failed to bag a win during the games the past weekend – Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs lost in Nigeria and Zambia and Orlando Pirates played to a draw in Zimbabwe.

Kaizer Chiefs’ Langaville branch supporter Teka Matsepane says his team will be playing against Zesco United, the Zambian champions, on Saturday at the FNB stadium at 8pm.

“We have to win this game because in our previous encounter we played to a 3-1 loss at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium,” he says.

Greater Springs Mamelodi supporter Mmeselane Ramushi says they are looking forward to lock horns with Wydad AC from Morocco.

“The game will be played at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday evening.

“We hope to win the game to make it to the next leg of the confederation,” he says.

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates will be going head to head against Horoya AC at the Orlando Stadium on Friday.

Orlando Pirates supporter Rangwane Mahlabunyana says they hope to walk away as winners of the confederation.

“The last time we won the games was in 1995 against Isaac Mimosa when we received the star printed on our T-shirts.

“In the Saturday game we hope to win 2-0.

“I have seen the players in their recent games and have faith they will make us proud,” he says.

Teka shared his condolences with fans and family of late Bafana Bafana player Philemon Masinga.

Masinga was announced dead on Sunday at age 49 after being admitted to hospital last month.

The soccer legend has played 58 games for the national team and was part of the team that won the African Cup of Nations in 1996.

At the peak of his career, he played for Leeds United as a striker and Cosmos.

Matsepane says he remembers Masinga for scoring three goals in one game while playing against Kaizer Chiefs.
