Mnandi Market for small businesses

“There will also be live performances by local artists and MCs and we will have a ‘chill zone’.”

KwaThema – Banele and Daniel are preparing to host the first Mnandi For Market ekasi.

“The concept is one we have seen in other places before.

“And we have adopted it to help inspire young entrepreneurs from Kwatsaduza,” explains Banele Nkosi, who is spearheading the project with his friend Daniel Fumba.

He says they believe there is a gap in the market for young people to showcase their businesses to the community.

“This is just a platform for them, because their businesses already exist.

“We want everyone to come together and say, ‘This is what we can do.’”

Banele says people have a perception that markets have to be fancy.

“From ‘skopo’ to ‘skopas’, our street food is very unique in the hood and maybe we should capitalise on that.

“Our food also tends to be cheaper than what you would find in markets in the suburbs.”

The event will take place on August 9 at the Extension Two soccer group on September Street.

The event will start at 11am.

“There will also be live performances by local artists and MCs and we will have a ‘chill zone’.

“Entrance is free and children of all ages are allowed.”

Entrepreneurs who would like to showcase on the day can call Banele on 084 229 1609.
