Sabotage gives the hood a voice

Sabotage drops first EP (extended play) with new record label and says it’s all for the family.

KwaThema – Thabo Twala (23), aka Sabotage, says his love for music and KwaThema will be clearly expressed in his latest offering Make Volomel 90.

“I think the songs are a perfect description of what’s happening in the hood, through my eyes.

“Even if the listener had never been to KwaThema before they would have a sense just by paying attention to the music.”

He says the title itself is derived from the jargon ekasi.

“Make volomel means doing the most.

“We are putting our best foot forward on this one.”

Sabotage says his love for hip-hop started when he was in Grade Six.

He says his uncle, Mzwandile Twala, always had a studio and made beats.

“I’ve always been inspired by watching him work.

“From making a beat to writing the lyrics and recording, it’s all a loving exercise.

“I just wanted to take it to another level.”

Hustltainment, the recording label founded by Sabotage along with Dikganga Phutagae, Motheo Qubu, Jabu Twala and Thabo Biddy, is ready to make sure the world knows that there is no hood like KwaThema.

“My EP is the first to drop, from the stable.

“But soon my brothers will follow with their own projects.

“We want to become a household name.”

Sabotage says people have a misconception that if they don’t see the brand on TV then they are small time.

And his crew wants to change that mentality.

He says the highlight of his career was performing on the Sprite stage at Back to the City in 2014.

“Sprite gave upcoming artists like me an opportunity to showcase.

“It was amazing.”

The EP is available on all digital platforms.
