Twin Plugs taking over Tsakane

Twin Plugs, a production company, reached a milestone when their production, The Pursuit of Happiness, filled the Tsakane Community Hall.

Tsakane – After months of rehearsals, no less than 250 people turned up to watch the much-anticipated play.

“It is so incredible to see so many people come out to support us.

“We started with an audience of 25 people at Tsakane old age Hall in 2015 and last year we filled it up,” explains Ayanda Martin who is one of the founding members of the organisation.

The Pursuit of Happiness is a story about a brother and sister who grew up without parents and they were brought up by a foster parent.

“As they grew up they separated,” explains Derick Mathebula, one of the organisation’s directors.

In the story, Nomasonto becomes a street kid and Maxwell gets a job as a garden boy.

“Nomasonto’s life changes after meeting a guy (Frank) who takes her to school.

“Eventually she reunites with her brother, Maxwell, who works for Frank’s family.”

The twist in the story is the revelation that their parents were killed by the same people Maxwell is working for.

Twin Plugs hosted a special guest from the TV series Muvhango and Mmoni Moabi, the continuity supervisor of Skeem Saam and director of Z’bondiwe.

“We would really like to thank the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation for supporting the event.

“Not forgetting Mkhomazi Mashinini, the professional theatre practitioner at Taxido Art Production Company,” adds Martin.

The organisation’s hard work was also acknowledged last November when they bagged the Best Feature Film award at Ekurhuleni Film Festival.
