Superman is dead and Wonder Woman, Batman and their motley crew of superheroes need to save the world from its biggest threat – Steppenwolf.

It’s a powerful opening to a fun film in the same vein as other movies made of DC comics.

Steppenwolf has returned from eons in exile to reunite the three mother boxes, which will give him the power to turn the world dark and rule.

Thousands of years ago he and his legions of parademons attempted to take over the earth by harnessing the energies emanating from these three boxes but were foiled by an army of Olympian gods, Amazons, Atlanteans and mankind.

After repelling Steppenwolf’s army, the boxes were separated and hidden in three separate locations on earth.

These same powers – in the form of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Batman, The Flash and Cyborg – must reunite to once again keep earth safe when Superman’s death triggers the reactivation of the mother boxes and Steppenwolf’s return from exile. The team soon discovers that in order to beat Steppenwolf, they will need the help of Superman.

Clark Kent’s body is then exhumed and placed in amniotic fluid, along with the mother box, in the genesis chamber of the Kryptonian ship and he is resurrected.

Travelling to a village in Russia, the heroes do battle with Steppenwolf and his cronies and are finally able to liberate the boxes and see Steppenwolf attacked and destroyed by his parademons.

While the film has met with some bad reviews, I found the co-operation between superheroes offered an interesting dimension to this light film.

These heroes are always, in their separate comics, the most dominant characters but when throwing them all into the same melting pot they are forced to vie for dominance, while still working together to triumph over evil.

This makes their characters far more three dimensional and adds layers to their personalities.

Personally, I enjoyed this film far more than some of the blander films centreing around a single hero.

For comic fans, this is a necessary addition to your collection.

For those who have yet to enjoy a comic book movie, this is a great starting point.
