We went in search of some of the top movies that were released in 2016, so you don’t have to.

1. Zootopia

An animation featuring animals from all environments. that live together and thrive in the big city. Officer Judy Hopps is appointed as the first bunny police officer. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity of a big missing person’s case and enlists the help of a sly, scam-artist fox to help solve the mystery.

2. Hell or High Water

An action packed wild, wild west type of movie where two Texas brothers reconcile after many years, to rob a bank in order to save their family land from foreclosure. A Texas Ranger is on their track as a last pursuit before his retirement. The brothers plan to rob one more bank and, with the ranger on their heels, they face an epic showdown.

3. Moonlight

Dramatic story of a young man’s struggle to find himself, grappling with his own sexuality and experiencing the pain and beauty of falling in love – told across three defining chapters in his life.

4. The Jungle Book

An adaptation of the classic Jungle Book that tells the story of Mowgli, a human boy who was adopted by a pack of wolves. A tiger named Shere Khan is a continuing threat to Mowgli. A panther named Bagheera and a bear named Balo attempt to protect Mowgli through his adventure, to the human village for his protection.

5. Finding Dory

A sequel of the much-loved classic, Finding Nemo. Dory still struggles with her memory, but lately experiences flashes of her childhood and her loving parents. Consumed by longing for them, Dory rushes off in an attempt to find them, based on her increasing memory flashes and help from new and old friends.

6. Arrival

An intense film featuring a race to save humanity, when mysterious spacecrafts touch down across earth – an elite team is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, the team race against time for answers. To find them, the leader takes a chance that could threaten her life and possibly humanity too.

7. Kubo and the Two Strings

In this action-adventure set in a fantastical Japan, is clever and kind-hearted Kubo. His relatively quiet existence is shattered when he accidentally summons a spirit from his past, which storms down from the heavens to enforce an age-old vendetta. On the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey and Beetle – and they set out on a thrilling quest to save his family.

8. Captain America: Civil War

Steve Rogers leads the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity, but after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability – headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps. One is led by Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference. The other follows Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

9. Moana

Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. Then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows exactly why. An adventurous teenager sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana meets the mighty demigod Maui, who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder.

10. 10 Cloverfield Lane

A young woman wakes up after a terrible accident, to find that she’s locked in a cellar with a doomsday prepper – who insists that he saved her life and that the world outside is uninhabitable, following an apocalyptic catastrophe. Uncertain what to believe, she soon determines that she must escape at any cost.
