Youngsters put Duduza on the map

Duduza – Two locals have been nominated for their collaboration on a gospel hip-hop track titled Igama Lakho.

The gospel singer and music writer, Wandile Nkosi-Moloi (33), and Mandla Zwane (30) recently made the cut for the third Ingoma’s (Independent National Gospel Music Awards) after they submitted their song to a panel of judges in April.

“These awards are for all independent musicians, who are doing things for themselves, not signed under any label.

“For this reason, we are excited to have been nominated.

“As an artist of gospel jazz, I am always looking at venturing into different styles of music as I don’t want to box myself into one category, which is why I decided to feature Zwane, a hip-hop artist to work with me on this song,” says Nkosi-Moloi.

She adds that though she initially wrote the song in 2008 before her professional music career kicked off, she held back on it till now which was a great decision.

A huge inspiration to her musical career was her late brother Xoli Nkosi who inspired and nurtured her talent.

“And since then, that is where my love for music began till now, so I am doing this for me and in memory of him,” she adds.

When asked what keeps her going Nkosi-Moloi says: “I left my job in 2011 to focus on this as I believed in the talent I have been given by God, and thus far he has been good to me and my album has taken care of itself.

“The passion and love also keep me going because I want to inspire and impact others so they know you don’t have to wait for someone else to make your dreams come true.

“Sometimes you must just do things yourself,” says Nkosi-Moloi.

The songstress is excited about her achievement as she says, when one’s work is appreciated it means a lot even though they just do it to help others.

And when such things happen, it just makes you want to do more.

Nkosi-Moloi says she is currently working on her second album called Zazi which will be out late next year as she says she wants to take her time with it.

Till then she is just hoping to win an award on August 27, when the award ceremony will take place at Kyalami in Midrand.
