Treasure chase with Dora and friends

Last Thursday, Emperor’s Palace hosted ‘Dora’s Pirate Adventure’ show at its Theatre of Marcellus.

The children’s show was a theatre production where children and parents gathered to accompany Dora and friends on their journey to Treasure Island, in search of the golden chest with hidden treasure inside it.

The chest was initially stolen by the Pirate Piggies who wanted to benefit from the treasure inside.

As Dora and friends got on the ship to Treasure Island, they came across many obstacles, included their arch nemesis, Mr Swiper.

At every turn Dora and her friends made, Mr Swiper was there, trying to stand in the way of them reaching the desired destination.

It was a race to the finish – or rather the treasure – for both parties.

One other challenge Dora and friends had to face was to get over the Singing Bridge, which was the last obstacle before the group arrived at Treasure Island.

The challenge for Dora and friends was to help the Singing Bridge sing the correct words to well-known and well-loved nursery rhymes.

This was of course my daughter, Faith’s, and every other child’s favourite part.

Every time Singing Bridge sang the wrong words, the audience corrected him by singing the right version along with Dora and friends.

‘Twinkle-Twinkle Little Star’ and ‘Old MacDonald Had a Farm’ were two of the sing-along nursery rhymes that Dora, her friends and the audience had to teach the Singing Bridge.

After much trial and error, the Singing Bridge eventually got the lyrics right and allowed Dora and her friends to sail through to Treasure Island.

Dora and friends sang the famous, ‘We are going to Treasure Island’ theme song as they arrived at the island.

With much excitement from Faith and the other children in the audience, Dora and friends found the treasure chest and opened it.

What made this treasure particularly special was that instead of gold being inside the chest, it contained everything needed for a disco party.

Yep, hidden inside the treasure was, well, a party.

So as Dora and friends changed into their party outfits and got ready to dance, every child in the audience got up to dance and sing.

So not only did the treasure benefit Dora and friends, it became a party for everyone else as well.

At the end of the show, we stayed for a meet-and-greet with Dora along with all the other children and parents.

All I could hear were pleas from the children, Faith included, to take Dora home.

It was evident that Dora was the real treasure of the evening.
