Sibiya on his latest offering

Daveyton - Local hip hop and kwaito artist, Thando Sibiya (27) released his first EP titled "Life Sentence, Straight out of Twatwa" in December.

The Daveyton artist takes pride in his latest offering saying he wrote, composed and produced the five track EP.

” As a child I always wanted to be in the entertainment industry and seeing that I’ve managed to release an EP on my own is a sign that I can achieve national and international success,” he says.

Growing up Sibiya says he started of as a dancer and developed the passion of spitting rhyme.

“I have literally started from the bottom and worked myself to where I am today,” says Sibiya.

The EP talks about life in the township, crime, suicide and unemployment and aims to motivate listeners to keep on pushing and never give up.

“The youth of today are faced with many things, they need positive music that will give them hope for the future.

“I believe music should revive your spirit and motivate you and that’s why I chose to touch on issues that are of importance in the community,” says the rapper.

Sibiya says he is inspired by kwaito artist Zola and the late rap artist Tupac Shakur because they represent the voiceless in the community through their music.

He has sold over 300 copies since the release of his EP and aims to sell 50 000 copies.
