Park’s reopening delights residents

Duduza - Children and residents of Duduza are happy that the Reconciliation Park in Letsapa Street has been reopened.

The park, which was officially opened on September 26 by Ekurhuleni mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele, was shut a week later without any explanation.

It is, however, believed a broken merry-go-round was the cause of the park’s closure.

It was reported in the African Reporter, ‘Duduza Reconciliation Park is closed to the public’, how residents were unhappy about not being informed about the park’s closure.

Resident Duduzile Sibeko says she is happy the park is open for children to play in and for community members to access it.

“Our children have been waiting for this park to open for a very long time and we hope we will not experience any more problems,” says Sibeko.

The park has a skate park, chess area, jungle gym and a gym area for all who want to make use of it.

“This is our beautiful park that we must take care of and ensure no one vandalises the facilities,” says resident Pinky Mtsweni.

She adds that parents and guardians should also play a role in teaching children not to vandalise community property.
