Local hip-hop group inspires

KwaThema - Popular hip-hop group Rap City is ready to burst onto the hip hop scene.

The quintuple group started in 2013 and its members are aged between 21 and 27.

The youngsters are residents of Barcelona Extension Three and want to educate and entertain their peers through hip-hop music.

Rap City draws their inspiration from the challenges they face as the community of Barcelona.

Simmy Lala (22), a member of Rap City, explained their choice of music, saying hip-hop is a relevant genre to communicate with the youth of today.

“Most young people listen to hip-hop music because it is current and what youngsters want to listen to.”

Another member of the group, Ditsego Moreko (24), said that the groups different backgrounds and life experiences bring a different feel to their music.

“Through music we are telling our life stories and telling people that we want a better future,” said Moreko.

In future, the young hip-hop group would like to work with big hip-hop producers and artists in South Africa.

Rap City will be launching their first album at Chicago Park in Tsakane on July 18.
