Decapitated head gets action started

Book: NYPD Bed 3 Authors: James Patterson and Marshall Karp Reviewed by: Samantha Keogh Review made possible by: Random House Struik

In a city fraught with politics, New York Police Department’s Red squad is an elite group of detectives which is tasked with crimes affecting the rich and powerful – whether they are the perpetrators, the victims or just trying to keep their names off the radar.

Detective Zach Jordan and his partner Kylie MacDonald are NYPD Red’s best and when a Haitian chauffeur’s decapitated head is found in a bag belonging to the scion of a leading New York family they catch what at first seems to be a fairly run-of-the mill, albeit it very gruesome, case.

Hunter Alden Jr is a scumbag billionaire business shark with a secret, which if discovered, could land him in jail for the rest of his life.

He is the chauffeur’s employer and he is trying desperately not to let anyone know his son has been kidnapped.

Then there’s Tripp, the son …

Blocked at every turn by the Alden family, Jordan and MacDonald Zach claw their way to the truth even after their own lives become the killer’s prime target.

NYPD Red 3, as the title might suggest, is the third in the series by best-selling author James Patterson in collaboration with Marshall Karp, a former advertising executive whom Patterson first targeted in 2011 as a co-author for the New York Times best seller “Kill Me If You Can”.

Karp also has several of his own books under his belt, including four thrillers which feature LAPD Detectives Mike Lomax and Terry Biggs, starting with “The Rabbit Factory”.
