Farewell Lesego

Ayoba-Yo-Youth Soccer Academy held a farewell ceremony for Lesego Sebano (13).

Her parents, family and friends were at the event held at the KwaThema Hall on Saturday to witness her special send off and wishing her a brighter future.

Lesego is officially joining the SAFA Academy at the High Performance Centre.

She has been training with the academy since October.

Lesego was the only girl playing for Ayoba Academy for four years after she joined the Ayoba family at the age of eight.

Speaking about working with Lesego, Ayoba technical director, Innocent Mayoyo said he had no doubt that Lesego will one day represent the country in football.

He explained that when he saw Lesego kicking a soccer ball alone along the street, he knew that she was a diamond that needed to be polished.

“The way that she kicked the ball showed me that she was going far,” said a proud Mayoyo.

He explained that despite the differences that he had with Lesego’s family that wanted her to compete in beauty contests while he was pushing to prepare the girl’s future on the pitch, all the hard work did not go down the drain.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Lesego’s aunt Mamorena Sebano thanked Mayoyo for realising Lesego’s talent.

“If Mayoyo gave up when the family used to chase him away when he came to fetch Lesego for training sessions and soccer camps, our girl would not be where she is today,” Sebano said holding back tears.

She reminded Lesego about her dedication and passion for football that took her this far.
