Exciting page-turner

Book: Invisible Author: James Patterson and David Ellis Reviewed by: Samantha Keogh Review made possible by:Penguin

A convoluted plot-line culminating in the least expected twist makes Invisible one of the most exciting page-turners to come out of the James Patterson/David Ellis cooperative so far.

Disgraced FBI analyst Emmy Dockery is the only person to read a pattern into a series of seemingly unrelated fires and concomitant deaths in different jurisdictions across the north east United States.

She is obsessed with the notion that a brilliant and unbelievably sadistic serial killer is at work and tries everything she knows to get the FBI to run a proper investigation.

Standing in her way is her boss who is more interested in dominating her and getting into her pants than solving crime and has brought a sexual harassment complaint against her to prevent her getting him fired.

In her corner is her former fiancé, a retired agent who has the ear of everyone who matters and manages to get her access to information that she needs to tie the crimes together.

Now local law enforcement and fire departments are forced to treat the matter seriously but Press leaks cause the killer to lay down a false trail which muddies the waters for investigators and readers alike.

His final victim – the only one not to die – is taken from her hospital bed to a remote cabin where she can be protected by US Marshalls.

Be warned: the herrings are still red.
