Sipho, the gospel singer

Sipho does not just sing gospel but he says he sings it to worship God

Sipho Kaleni (38) is not only a gospel artist but he is a born again Christian, a father to three children and a husband to Nomelikhaya Kaleni.

Sipho was born into the Kaleni family in Springs, grew up in KwaThema and went to Umsobomvu Primary School and Nkumbulo Comprehensive School in KwaThema.

He has never sung any other music genre except gospel, all his life.

He says he was brought up by a family that believes in God and has worked with many great musicians in the industry, including the Emmanuel Ministry group and has written songs for Lebo Sekgobela and Tebello Sukwene.

“Gospel music defines who I am and I love it because I love to worship God for all that he has done for me,” says Sipho.

He says at the age of 17 he got his first break into the television industry when he joined SABC 1 as a presenter of Masimdumise youth programme after passing the audition.

He continues to say that in 2005 after a long absence on the South African television screens, he worked as a presenter of Gospel Gold on SABC 1 before working with Zanele Mbokazi, managing her Christian talk show on Soweto TV.

Sipho, who is currently working as a radio presenter at Radio Pulpit, released his new album titled Remain in God’s Pot, last month.

“Following many years of singing, writing and composing music for other artists, I think the time is perfect for me to release my own album,” he says, adding that he will host the launch of his album towards the end of this year.

The album is not yet available in music stores but can be ordered by calling 078 815 7611.
