Local dancers going high
The Duduza Young Generation Dancers do not allow obstacles to stand on their way of success.
Members of the Duduza Young Generation Dance Group believe that their talent will open many doors for them.
The pantsula dance group that consists of six young and talented dancers, was formed in 2008 with the aim to help develop the dancing skills of the youth of Duduza. The members are between the ages of 19 and 24 and are all passionate about dance.
According to the group’s chairman, Stephen Mabena, to fulfil their dream of becoming one of the top pantsula dance groups in the country, they participated in dance competitions such as Step Up or Step Out season two in 2012 and last year where they managed to get as far as qualifying to be in the top seven.
“Managing to be in the top seven gave us more confidence and made us realise that if we work hard we will get what we want,” proudly says Stephen. Adding that this year they have entered for the Stumbo Stomp dance competition and appeal for the community’s support.
He explains that one of the challenges that the group is faced with, is struggling with transport. He says many times they missed the opportunity to take part in other competitions because they could not afford to get to the place.
Stephen says despite the challenges that the group has experienced, they are still going strong and will continue working towards achieving their goal.
He says the group is also looking for more dancers to join them to ensure that young people in their township have something to live for.
Mojalefa Mokoena, one of the group members, encourages the youth to use their talent to change their lives. “I believe that a talent can change someone’s life for the better,” says Mojalefa.
