Tebello, the gospel singer

Tebello Sukwene is not only a gospel artist but she is a born again Christian, the first-born daughter of Sarah Marokoane and a wife to Bafana Sukwene.

Tebello is also a sister-in-law to the Idols 2013 winner, Musa Sukwene and a mother to Paballo, Siyabulela and Mahle Sukwene.

She was born into the Moeketsi family in Springs, grew up in KwaThema and Tsakane and went to school at Geluksdal Primary and Secondary School.

Tebello has never sung any music genre except gospel all her life. She says she was brought up by a family that believes in God, however she says she has worked with many great musicians in the industry including Lira and Simphiwe Dana who do not sing gospel.

Tebello has also worked as a co-songwriter for the Jazziel brothers and yet still loved gospel more. “Gospel music defines who I am and I love it because I love to worship God for all that he has done for me,” says Tebello.

She adds that she recently recorded her first and soon-to-be-released live DVD and CD titled ‘He’s Alive’.

She continues to say that she worked with her husband Bafana as the executive producer, Nqubeko Mbatha as the producer, Wanda Khwela as the music director and had the best songwriters, Ntokozo Mbambo, Churchill Selatole, Sipho Kaleni, Mahalia Buchanan, Sbongiseni Mbhele and Sifiso Khanyile, just to mention a few.

Speaking about the challenges that she has faced along the way in the music industry, she says the biggest challenge is when she had to go solo and have her own album released.

“Despite having worked with many known musicians, I had to take my career seriously while also presenting the best image and reputation to my fans,” Tebello says.

She says in the next five years she wants to be able to sign other artists. “I would also love to see myself recording more albums and eventually being recognised not only in South Africa but by other countries as well,” proudly says Tebello.

Tebello will be one of the artists who will be performing during Churchill Selatole’s new CD launch.

She says to spread her love she will be doing an Easter service at Chance Children’s Home. If you want to see Tebello performing live, make sure that you do not miss her performance on March 29 at Zoe Christian Fellowship in KwaThema.
