Young talent gets regional recognition

Easterns placed third in the Cricket South Africa Hubs Challenge.

Kwa-Thema – Four players and a coach from the Kwa-Thema Cricket Club hub had the honour of representing Easterns recently.

The Cricket South Africa (CSA) Hubs Challenge returned this month, showcasing young talent emerging from the country’s cricket hubs.

Willowmoore Park in Benoni hosted the tournament’s first leg between March 22 and 25. The event featured eight teams – Easterns, Lions, North West, Dolphins, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Titans, and KZN Inland.

“It was a great experience for us. The competition was tight. The players got exposed to a different style of play, and the level will inspire them to do more,” explained coach Zweli Khumalo.

He said they are grateful for the opportunity. Easterns placed third and won four out of the five games they played.

The 2024 CSA Hubs Challenge will see teams battle it out in 50-over matches, providing an ideal platform for emerging cricketers to showcase their abilities.

The Kwa-Thema Cricket Club invites young players to join them. Their age divisions start at U8 and go up to the seniors.
