Rethabile Molefe headed to Zimbabwe

Rethabile Molefe is part of team South Africa.

Kwatsaduza – Thirteen-year-old Springs Home Sweepers player Rethabile Molefe has been selected to be part of the U15 South African Squad to play in CAF African Schools Football Championship – COSAFA qualifiers from December 14 to 16 in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Molefe scored 13 goals in the league and is also a learner at Mmuso Primary School in Duduza. She was spotted by the South African U15 coach, Ntombifuthi Khumalo, during the SASOL Women’s League earlier this year.

Khumalo said she spotted talent in Molefe and feels she’ll do well at the tournament. The tournament will be played by 10 countries divided into two groups (both boys and girls). South Africa won the inaugural boys and girls competition last year and are placed in Group B.

According to Khumalo, as this is a school’s tournament, 40% of the players are allowed to be from different schools, while 60% will be from the schools that qualified.

Boys will play under Ubuntu Football Academy School while the girls, including Molefe, will be part of Edenvale Technical School.
