Local runners shine at 2023 Africa Masters Athletics Championships

They have qualified for the World Masters Athletics Championship which will be hosted next year in August.

Kwatsaduza – Three seasoned runners from Kwatsaduza flew the local flag during the 2023 Africa Masters Athletics Championships.

The championships were hosted at Pilditch Stadium from November 16 to 18.

Moeketsi “Sparks” Moagi finished in first place in the 3 000m steeplechase. He set a new record of 11:35 from his previous record of 11:36.

He finished in the third position in the 1 500m. Pule Tjaona finished first in the 10 000m and second in the 1 500m.

Lefu Lephoto won the 1 500m, finished second in 800m and third in the 400m. Moagi said he is proud of the team for dominating the championships.

“This was one of the most challenging championships I have ever competed in due to high temperatures. Fortunately, we pushed hard and came out as winners,” he added.

They have qualified for the World Masters Athletics Championship, which will be hosted next year in August.
