Duduza and Tsakani Karatekas excel in Soweto

Only two didn't win their matches.

Duduza – Ikok Sonoda Full Contact Karate Organisation competed in the Sonoda Full Contact Weight Categories Karate Tournament held at the Orlando Communal Hall in Soweto on Saturday, where students from both Tsakani and Duduza dominated the tournament in different divisions.

Bheki Radebe, founder and instructor of Duduza Ikok Sonoda dojo or gym, said, “Among 21 fighters we sent to the tournament, only two didn’t win any trophies. As an instructor, I’m proud of how they fought.”

Radebe said, as for the karateka from Tsakani, all four fighters from that dojo claimed a top three position.

“The competition was tough considering it was a national contest with fighters from other provinces,” Radebe said.

Radebe said he is grateful for the support he gets from parents of the students since the inception of the dojo two years ago.

He said because of that support the dojo keeps growing, but he is more grateful to the library management for adopting sports and art as the library’s extramural activity.

“I also appreciate the overwhelming support from the business community of Duduza who sponsored the transportation of our children to Soweto.

“This shows that they see the need to invest in the future of their business as most young people’s lives collapse because of drugs, which means if we don’t take care of young ones engaged in positive activities, we won’t have potential business supporters in future,” Radebe said.

Anyone who would like to join the dojo in Duduza may visit the library for details. The classes are on Mondays from 17:00 to 18:00.
