Former heavyweight wants to revive his boxing career

Tsakani champion Mxolisi Nombewu said he was ready to revive what is left of his boxing career.

Tsakani – Former IBO champion Mxolisi Nombewu (34) is getting set to make his return to the ring.
The boxer recently met with his management team: Manny Fernandes, Samuel Mofokeng, Thembeka Maqakelana and Moses Mofokeng together with Ward Clr Moses Sipho Sibiya at Tsakani Customer Care Center to discuss his future and reviving boxing in Tsakani.

Mxolisi Nombewu and team want to bring back boxing in the township.

Nombewu was crowned a champion in 2014 after defeating Xolani Radi for an IBO international bantamweight title in East London.
“I had to take a break from boxing because of the pandemic but I want to continue from where I left off and reach greater heights.
“For some of us sport was our way of earning income.
“So the pandemic forced us to look elsewhere, some people lost their homes and some slipped into substance abuse.
“I had to look for employment, I was assisted by Pat Mngomezulu during that time, whom I would like to thank,” he said.

He added that boxing is slowly being written off in the townships but there’s still talent that needs nurturing.
His management team said Nombewu has what it takes to be a champion again.
“We admire his positive attitude, drive, energy and passion that he has and shows at training sessions that we have with Fernandes.
“He is always willing to go the extra mile.
“We are aiming for the ultimate.
“You know what’s said about the stars,” they said.
