Tournament puts doping in the spotlight

Organisations join hands to fight drug abuse in Kwatsaduza.

Kwatsaduza – Dusty Sports Occasional Knockouts continued its efforts to fight substance abuse through sports.
The NPO hosted another segment of the Fight Against Substance Abuse (FASA) sports tournament in partnership with Gauteng Community Safety, Take Charge Sport sector and the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture on Sunday.
Four all-female netball and soccer teams participated in the tournament.
The event took place at the Langaville Ground in Ext One.
Initially, the tournament was meant to take place at Tsakani Stadium but the organiser and NPO founder Mandla Gininda said they were forced to make changes.
“We made this difficult decision to relocate due to circumstances beyond our control.
“Though it was hard, we believe it was the right thing to do.
“We received the information that we could not use the stadium late, but luckily we were able to come up with another plan,” stated Gininda.

He said they could not cancel or postpone because all other arrangements had been already finalised.
The first soccer match was between Glory Women’s Sports Academy and Duduza United Ladies’ FC. Duduza won 1- 0.
Then Young Achievers FC played against Etwatwa Ladies FC, winning 3-0.
The finale was between Duduza FC and Etwatwa, which resulted in Etwatwa Ladies FC being crowned winners after winning 3-0.
They walked away with a trophy, new kit and gold medals.
While in netball, Arsenal won the tournament 50-13 against Amazababa in the final.
They won a trophy, new kit and gold medals.
Other teams that participated were the Power Pulf Girls and Palamente Netball Club.
The South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport, South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA) in Geluksdal and the department of health from Ekurhuleni were present during the tournament.
Players were gifted with sanitary towels, donated by the Greater Springs Mamelodi Sundowns Supporters branch and Doleza Tavern.
