Kwa-Thema Disability Club nominated for Gauteng Sport Awards

Kwa-Thema Disability Sports Club has been nominated at the Gauteng Sports Awards.

Kwa-Thema – Local para-athletics club Kwa-Thema Disability Sports Club has been nominated at the Gauteng Sport Awards in the Sports Team of the Year with a Disability category.
The announcement was made last Friday by Gauteng MEC of Sports Mbali Hlophe.
This is the fifth time the club has been nominated. It won the award once.
The awards are organised by the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation and are supported by the provincial Sports Confederation Council.

Jovial founder and head coach of the club Aubrey Mathibela is optimistic about the nomination.
“As a team, we are excited to be nominated. We are feeling positive about this year’s nomination and looking forward to bringing it home.
“Our hard work is paying off and we could not be more proud. Through all the obstacles we came across this past year, we did not once give up.
“Our athletes gave their best every time they were on the field and it definitely shows,” stated Mathibela.

The awards are aimed at celebrating and rewarding excellence among the remarkable men and women of sport in Gauteng who, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, gave their best over the period.
The local club will be up against Central Gauteng Lions Blind Cricket and the Gauteng Ladies Wheelchair Basketball, which are the other nominees in the category.
