Know the difference between an academy and club, warns BLFA

The Brakpan Local Football Association (BLFA) said they are aware of coaches demanding monthly payments from parents.

Tsakani – Brakpan Local Football Association (BLFA) chairperson Phoko Mokubung said they are aware of coaches demanding monthly payments from parents.
“We have received calls and complaints from parents regarding the monthly payment requests from clubs, of which we are not aware.
“As the association, we are advising parents to question what the money is for before attempting to pay it.
“Coaches need to provide players with correct contact details to make it easy for parents to make enquiries,” he explained.

He said all junior league games have been halted.
“It doesn’t make sense why teams are asking for payments as no games are being played.

Phoko Mokubung is the chairperson of the Brakpan Local Football Association.

“The only teams who require assistance from parents are the ones playing in the regional leagues.
“They normally need money for transportation, food and other necessities,” explained Mokubung.

He emphasised the importance of parents understanding how local football structures operate and said parents must be able to differentiate between an academy and a club.
Mokubung added that this is proving to be a major challenge that requires education.
“For a club to operate as an academy they need to have a licence.
“It must be authorised by the youth committee of Safa.
“Academies are inclusive and provide academics beyond sport.
“Parents don’t know how to verify if the academy is registered or not,” he said.
