SLFA launches junior tournament for young soccer players

Kwa-Thema – The Springs Local Football Association (SLFA) and RDP Masters on Sunday launched a Junior Tournament. The tournament will see teams in the u-11, u-13, u-15 and u-17 age groups, affiliated to the SLFA, participate in the tournament which kicks off on Saturday. Mkhonza Mkhonzana said after the president announced the move to lockdown level one, they decided to host a formal tournament for the players.

“We decided to approach RDP Masters teams to join us in making the tournament a success because we know they believe in the development of sports. “This will keep our players active into the festive season. “We also identified that learners will be starting with their exams and we understand the contribution of being active during exams,” he said. Mkhozana said the players have been exercising with their respective teams in the past two weeks.

“We hope the players will be fit enough to display good soccer and fight to be crowned as the champions of the tournament. “We know they haven’t played formal football since March, but we are hoping they were keeping active,” he explained. Mkhonzana added the finalists will be playing in a new soccer kit. “They will also receive a trophy and medals respectively, according to the finishing position,” he said. Follow us on:
