Sibusisiwe Masina, a learner at the school, was named a finalist in the School Sports Athlete of the Year with a Disability category.

Kwa-Thema – Phelang School for Learners with Special Educational Needs bagged an award in the Team of the Year category at the Ekurhuleni Women in Sports Awards.

They were also announced as a finalist in the School Team of the Year category.
In addition, Sibusisiwe Masina, a learner at the school, was named a finalist in the School Sports Athlete of the
Year with a Disability category.

In 2019, the school scooped 39 gold medals, 29 silver medals and 13 bronze medals, following participation in
various sports competitions at the South African Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired.
This year, they achieved second position with 15 gold medals, nine silver medals and 15 bronze medals through
events at the Ekurhuleni Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired.
Nine gold medals, three silvers and four bronze medals were won at the Prestige Games. School sports chairperson Kedibone Masango said the achievements would not have been possible without the support of the entire school.

“I am delighted about the award and all our achievements to date.
“We have been working very hard, with the support of our school principal and sport committee.
“From the coaches to the learners who show up for practice to ensure we give our best when out there,” said Masango.
