Nominations now open for the Women in Sports Awards

Third instalment of Women in Sports Awards was officially launched

Kwatsaduza – The third instalment of Women in Sports Awards was officially launched on July 31 via Facebook live by the founder and chairperson of Futballing Girls, Moonira Ramathula.

This is done in partnership with the City of Ekurhuleni Sports Confederation.

The awards will this year include Johannesburg and the West Rand, as they expand their footprint in Gauteng.

“The inaugural awards have added an exciting element as it warmly welcomes more regions in celebrating women in sports.

“In doing so, these awards can reach more emerging and veteran females in sport from a larger community base, such as Ekurhuleni, City of Johannesburg and the West Rand.

“By making room for more women to be recognised on the platform, Futballing Girls will be able to identify and redress the competitiveness of women sports on a wider and more inclusive scale,” explained Ramathula.

New exciting categories have been added for this year’s ceremony.

“Recognition platforms such as these do two things, either you get excited that you have finally been recognised, rewarded and appreciated for your efforts and hard work or it pushes you to do more, do better and change the landscape.

“Our awards have no preference, except honouring and recognising women, while advocating for the growth in females participating and contributing in sport.

“The growth in participation in sport also plays a catalyst role in assisting society address social ills and creates opportunities of change,” said Ramathula.

Nominations close on August 28.

Nomination forms have been made available on the Futballing Girls website (www.futballinggirls.simplesite.com), Futballing Girls social media (Twitter and Facebook) and on WhatsApp (065 690 5407).

• Federation of the Year

• Volunteer of the Year

• Community Sports Journalist of the Year

• Community Sports Radio Presenter of the Year

• Grassroots Project of the Year (NPO/NPC/NGO)

• Sports Confederation President Awards x 5

The award ceremony will be held virtually and will be separated based on regions. The awards will be held on September 25.
