Local karatekas shine

“We don’t take tournaments lightly."

Tsakane – Local karatekas showed off their skills during the Kyokushinkan Gauteng Tournament over the weekend.

The tournament was hosted at the Sam Ntuli Community Hall in Thokoza.

Mmathapelo Sibeko fought to the bitter end and finished in the second position in the junior open division in the kumite challenge.

Karabo Makhetha also finished second in the junior division.

Shihan Linda Ngubane says he is proud of the team for finishing top at the tournament.

“Our fighters work hard by practising daily to prepare for such tournaments.

“We don’t take tournaments lightly; we tackle them as an opportunity to engrave our name as champions,” says Ngubane.

Ngubane says they practise at the Buhlebemfundo Secondary School in Tsakane.

“We are encouraging parents to support their children who are interested in the sport, especially by funding their away fights.

“We are still a small team and we don’t have funds; we need parents to fund the children’s trips.

“We are also pleading with local business people to assist where they can,” he says.
