Academy rewards players for their hard work

Top players receive recognition at Ace Auto Ayoba Academy sports awards.

KwaThema – Themba Mazibuko (16) walked away as the biggest winner of the day on Sunday at the Ace Auto Ayoba Academy sports awards.

The event took place at the KwaThema Community Hall to honour deserving young players who showed dedication and commitment throughout the year.

Mazibuko was crowned player of the year, won a sports voucher of R500 and a branded cap and took home the big trophy.

“None of this would be possible without the support from the team and my family.

“I would like to send a special thank you to my teammate Kagiso Matseke. He has been so supportive and has taught me a lot about the team since I am new to this team,” says Mazibuko.

In the u-11 to u-19 age groups, new players who joined the club this year and those who showed improvement received certificates.

Themba Mazibuko (16) was named player of the year at the Ace Auto Ayoba Academy sports awards.

The top goal scorers were Lethukuthula Thabethe (u-11), Siyabonga Ngwenya (u-13), Khumo Madihlaba (u-15), Sibusiso Mboweni (u-17) and Lindokuhle Dladla (u-19).

Awards for best goalkeeper went to Siyanda Nxumalo (u-11), Lethukuthula Thabethe (u-13), Siyabonga Motha (u-15), Happy Mofokeng (u-17), Siphesihle Dlamini (u-17), Katlego Mahlaba (u-19) and Samuel Madiba (u-19).

The winner of the coach of the year prize, Tshepo Nkabinde, says all of the players contributed positively to the development of the academy.

“I believe when everything is done with love and commitment, things happen.

“This has been a very great year for us, especially the u-17 team.

“We have done very well for ourselves and hope to continue to do better so we can be promoted to the next league,” says Nkabinde.
