Local runners fight for spot in Comrades at Soweto Marathon

“One of our female runners, Eunice Veliswa Dunjwa, finished third in the half marathon in a time of 1:55:27,” he adds.

KwaThema – Eighty-two long-distance runners from KwaThema Striders Athletics Club (KTSAC) participated in the annual Soweto Marathon, which is also known as the People’s Race, held in Soweto on Saturday.

The race is one of the official Comrades qualifiers.

Club secretary Tshepo Mahlangu says the runners from their team participated in the different distances, which included six runners in the 10km, 28 runners in the half marathon and 48 runners in the marathon.

“We are happy that of the 82 runners, 15 were women in the half marathon.

“We are promoting participating in the race as part of women empowerment as a core value of the team.

“Members of the public are invited to join the team for next year as membership is now open, this incorporates the parkruns that are held at Buluthando Park every Saturday,” he says.
