KwaThema Disabled Sports Club look to qualify for international games

KwaThema Disabled Sports Club is set to represent at the Toyota National Championships for the Physically Disabled and Visually Impaired from March 17 to 21 in Stellenbosch.

The annual competition will provide athletes with an opportunity to represent South Africa at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai from November 7 to 15.

Neo Ndlovu, a 100m, 200m and 400m runner, expressed his excitement: “I am very excited and confident that we are going to do our very best to represent the Gauteng region well.

“Even though I recently went back to training after a knee injury, I am confident in myself,” says Neo.

Coach Aubrey Mathibela said: “We are happy that our children will be participating at the national championships and we wish them all the best and trust they will make us proud,” says Mathibela.

Sixteen athletes from the club have qualified to take part in the championships after qualifying at provincial level.

Both junior and senior athletes will be participating in para-athletics, boccia, cerebral palsy (CP) football, goalball, judo for the blind, para-cycling, para-powerlifting and para-swimming.
