The pair forms part of the team of 11 athletes from the club who qualified to take part in the championship after appearing at the provincial games.

Mathibela, who has been coaching them for three years, says: “They must keep going on and show other disabled people that it is possible.”

Mathibela started the club in 2003. He realised at the time there were no teams for people with disabilities.

In 2015, two of their members took part in the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

“My hope is for them to make it to the World Junior Games and the next Paralympics.”

The club meets at the KwaThema Stadium, Mondays to Thursdays, between 3pm and 5pm.
