Black belt holders invited to join association

“We are calling all black belt holders to join the association because its success depends on all of us working together.”

KwaThema – Young and old karate fighters participated in the training event hosted by the KwaThema Karate Association at the Edward Mtshali Karate dojo on Wednesday evening.

This was the first session hosted by the association since its official launch last week.

Chairperson of the association, Michael Cindi, says four karate dojos in the area participated in the training session.

“We saw 22 fighters participating in the training session which was instructed by Shihan Edward Mtshali.

“We are hoping the skills learnt on the day will be shared with the young fighters in the different dojos affiliated to the association.

“ Young people need to be encouraged to participate in sports because it teaches them discipline which many lack today.

“We hope through the association we will attract more fighters to the sport who will also make a career out of it,” he explains.

Cindi says the association was formed to help unify the sport, and to have a body that oversees all the dojos in the area.

“This will help ensure that all the dojos follow the same principles in the sports and ensure the sport last for decades.

“The first batch of fighters learnt the sport from the book by Master Hidetaka Nishiyama; they travelled the world to master the sport and promised to share the skill with others.

“Some of the fighters went on to start their independent dojos which excelled through the years on a local and international level,” he explains.

“We are calling all black belt holders to join the association because its success depends on all of us working together,” he says.
