Local sports players to participate in national games

KwaThema – Two young sports players with special needs from KwaThema Disability Sports Academy have been selected to participate in the South African School Games to be hosted in Johannesburg in December.

The games, which are hosted by the Department of Sports and Recreation, is an annual event seeing young players from across the country participating.

Participants from provincial school teams, including participants with special disabilities, participate in different sporting codes including indigenous games.

This will see a series of events taking place where top schools participate for national honours in the games.

Team coach, Aubrey Mathibela, says the players will be participating in the 100m, 200m, shot put, javelin and the long jump.

“Luvuyo Tabata will be participating in the 100m, 200m and the long jump, while Nkululeko Nhlangewa will compete in shot put and javelin.

“As a team, we are proud of the young players for working hard during practice to ensure that they fly the team’s flag very high.

“These are highly competitive multi-coded school sports league competitions aimed at promoting school sport amongst learners within various school environments at national level.

“We are hoping that they will come out as winners and make us proud,” he says.
