KwaThema elders to participate in national games

“The team has been working hard to prepare for the national games."

KwaThema – Elders from KwaThema Old Age Home will be participating in the National Golden Games to be hosted in Bloemfontein from October 21 to 28.

Contestants from various southern African countries will also take part in the sporting event.

Centre manager Moniccah Kgoloane says they are happy they will be the biggest team from Gauteng representing the province.

“We have 19 members from the centre who will be taking part in the competition.

“We are happy that the number of participants has been consistent ever since they graduated from the regional games held in Germiston,” she says.

Moniccah says they are hoping the team will bring gold medals home.

“The team has been working hard to prepare for the national games.

“They are all dedicated to the cause and know what to do and what is expected of them to make it, without anyone forcing them to attend their daily practice sessions,” she says.

Moniccah says they are calling on other elders in the community to join their team.

Ward 78 councillor Zanele Nyakale says she is proud of the team.

“It is not every day we see such a big number of participants representing us in the national games.

“From what I have seen, the elders are ready to fight for the number one position in the competition,” she says.
