Ama Eagles off to Soweto

Bigger Walker Boxing Club coach says although they have never lost any tournament they are still in great need of sponsorship.

Duduza – Fighters from Bigger Walker “Ama Eagles” Boxing Club are going to a boxing tournament in Soweto on September 12, 13 and 14.

The coach Charles Msthali says he saw a need for a proper sporting code that would keep the children around where he lives busy with something positive.

He then decided to start the club.

Banelo Tilo, one of the fighters, says ever since he joined the club he has learned discipline.

His concentration in class has improved and he is able to do his homework on time.

Boxing has also taught him to respect his teachers.

Mtshali says the learners come back from school and start training around 5pm up until 7pm.

After training they go straight back home.

Thus there is no time for them to involve themselves in unfruitful activities.

Thulani Constable says ever since he started boxing he has never lost a match thus he sees himself going professional.

Mtshali says they still need girls in the club. Currently, they only have two.

He emphasises that boxing is not only for boys; girls have shown great talent.

He invites girls who are interested in joining the club to come to their training session every Monday to Thursday.

Despite succeeding in many tournaments, they still have financial challenges.

“One of the challenges we have is lack of sponsorship,” the coach says.

Ever since he started the club he has not received any sponsorship.

They go around the community asking for donations when they have tournaments.

Despite those difficulties, his fighters always win every fight because of their passion for boxing.

He also adds that they are running short of training equipment like gloves because a pair of gloves costs around R5 000.

He urges anyone who may be able to help them or wants to join the club to contact him on 079 429 3876.
