KwaThema police and learners take to sports to help fight crime
“This is to help create awareness about crime and develop a relationship between the cops and the learners.”
KwaThema – Members of KwaThema police took time off to promote a positive relationship between the police and learners when they met on the sports fields at the KwaThema Stadium on Friday.
The tournament started on Thursday in the knock-out games.
KwaThema police spokesperson, Captain Thabo Sibuyi, says this year’s tournament is played under the theme of Sports their weapon.

“The objective of the tournament is for a cop to adopt a school and learner to help fight crime.
“It will also help build a close relationship between the community and police.”
Sibuyi continues to say this will help them fight crime and the learners who are abused will develop trust in the police and it will enable them to speak out.
“This is to help create awareness about crime and develop a relationship between the cops and the learners,” says Sibuyi.
Sibuyi says they want the residents to be comfortable and trust the police by reporting any illegal activities without any fear.
He says the police understand that young people are afraid to report crime to the police because they fear victimisation, but through the initiative, he says, the police will be able to remove this fear.
The action kicked off with KwaThema SAPS team locking horns against the teachers of Kenneth Masikela Secondary School.
They played to a 7-1 win seeing the teachers’ team knocked out of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Fred Habede Primary School won 2-0 against Masimini Primary Schools.
In the netball section, Fred Habede Secondary School played to a 12-8 win against Masimini Primary Schools.
Event organiser Constable Percy Modikoe says they appreciate the support and participation of the teams in the tournament.
“We will be able to achieve the tournament with the assistance of the schools.
“We will still engage and work hand in hand with the schools and learners to help keep our streets safe from crime and educate the learners about the dangers of substance abuse,” he says.
