Platform for bodybuilding in Kwatsaduza

The KwaThema bodybuilding and fitness committee of the KwaThema Sports Confederation is ready to work.

KwaThema – “We have so many programmes planned and we can only hope that the community will be receptive to our mandate,” explains Bafana Manake, the committee’s chairperson.

He says high on their agenda is educating people about bodybuilding and fitness, and how people can make a career of it.

“People ekasi don’t recognise bodybuilding as a sport.

“We need to change this mentality.”

Bafana says one of the advantages of this sport is that athletes who take part in other sports, such as soccer, can also partake.

Ruth Nkosi, the secretary, says they need to work even harder to get the sport into schools.

“Fitness includes aerobics and boot camps.

“These are activities that can help promote a healthy lifestyle for learners at an early age.”

She believes that if there was a wider variety of sport to choose from, more learners would find ones that are suitable for them.

“We also need to deal with the perception that bodybuilding is only for males.

“Our programmes will cater for males and females from the age of five,” adds Bafana.

The organisation also wants to create opportunities for budding personal trainers and nutritionists.

“Fitness is such a broad field, we just need to educate people and spark their interest.”

The committee is working from the KwaThema Customer Care offices, where anyone can reach them if they have any questions.
