Soccer coach Mkhonza Mkhonzana says the eight teams participated in the quarterfinals.

“The players, midfielder, striker, best player and defender were crowned by the legends from the community and walked away with R1 000 vouchers in school stationary.

“During this year’s tournament, the players were all competing and motivated to bring their A-game on the pitch because there were prizes up for grabs.

“The best player award was awarded to Phumlani Khoza from Early Birds FC, AsekhoThiwane (Jealous Down FC), Thulane Mngomezulu (Valencia FC), and Xolani Cossa (Junior Spinners),” he says.

Mkhonzana says the tournament is aimed at fighting social ills which include drugs and crime.

“This group of players are at a fragile stage where they are easily swayed and influenced to participate in activities like crime and drugs.

“We are trying to keep them in school and active in sports to keep them busy from participating in these activities.

“The tournament is hosted by Springs Local Football Association and a local business family (Moabelo Family),” he says.
