Learners selected to represent the country in Ireland

“Even though this is an achievement, we are facing the reality that the girls might not attend the festival because of the shortage of funds." - Netball coach Pauline Mosehla

KwaThema – Three netball players from Tholulwazi Secondary School have been selected to represent the country during the Girls Netball Festival in Ireland and Mauritius.

Nomvula Masango was selected to participate in the Girls Netball Festival in Mauritius from October 2-9.

She will also join Patricia Lukhele and Simphiwe Mtshali during another Girls Netball Festival in Ireland from December 7-17.

Netball coach Pauline Mosehla says she is proud of the girls for being selected to be part of the South African netball team selected to represent the country at the festival.

“Even though this is an achievement, we are facing the reality that the girls might not attend the festival because of the shortage of funds.

“Each one of the girls needs R37 277 to make it to the festival.

“In total, the three of them need R139 381 to afford the travelling expenses which the girls’ families or school cannot afford.

“We are a one school fees paying school and the girls come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“The first payment of R5 000 for the Mauritius festival is due on April 25 and R3 000 for Ireland is due on April 30,” she says.

Mosehla says they are requesting residents and business people to assist in donating funds to make the girls’ dreams come true.

“These girls are very talented and need our support as a community to travel the world to learn from other girls on how to improve their netball skills.

“They have worked hard and practised to be able to impress the coaches during games held at St Stithians Girls College and St Andrews,” she says.
