Goodwill games to excite the locals

Local games to unite the community and fight social ills.

KwaThema – The 2017 Ekurhuleni Goodwill Annual Games are on again this year and promise to be bigger and better.

The games will see u-11 and u-15 teams playing under the Springs Local Football Association as well as senior teams and girls’ teams participating.

The games will take place from December 16 to December 30.

Organiser and coach Mkhonza Mkhonzana says the games were conceptualised last year with the aim of keeping the youth active during the festive season.

“Most of the leagues will be closed during this period and many will have a lot of time on their hands and end up getting involved in wrong things which they will later regret.

“The games will help unite the community and fight social ills.

“We are trying to fight drug addiction and crime in our community,” he says.

Mkhozana says they are inviting interested teams to register by December 9.

“Affiliation for the senior teams is R2 000 and the girls’ teams are expected to affiliate R500.

“The u-11 and u-15 teams are not expected to affiliate but to register during the registration period.

“The men’s first prize will be R100 000, second prize R50 000 and third prize R30 000.

“The ladies’ first prize will be R10 000, second prize R5 000 and third prize R2 000.

“The u-11 and u-15 boys will receive trophies, medals and soccer equipment.

“We are also inviting residents to support the games for them to gain momentum and for us to be able to host them in the coming years,” he says.
