Karatekas visit Tanzania

“We have learned a lot from other fighter’s and we will implement and share with the team."

KwaThema – Two karatekas from Edward Motshali Karate Dojo participated in a week-long karate camp in Tanzania recently.

The camp saw teams from nine countries around the continent participating.

Karate instructor Edward Motshali (seventh dan) and Kay Okuma (sixth dan), from Japan, offered lessons to the karatekas.

Edward says the camp is held annually in different countries, where fighters get an opportunity to interact with each other.

“This gives them an opportunity to learn new technical skills from their peers.

“The fighters gain knowledge, discipline, empowerment and development from the sessions.

“Exposure is very important for any athlete, especially the young ones who wish to one day participate in international fights,” he says.

One of the fighters, Dave More, says he is grateful for the opportunity to interact with fighters from other countries.

“We have learned a lot from other fighters and we will implement and share with the team.

“We also got an opportunity to visit some of the tourist sites in the country and learned about their heritage.

“It is always refreshing to see other how people out of our comfort zone live and do things,” he says.
